The aim of the first part of this paper is to cast new light on the textual constitution of some passages of the Epistula Aristeae ad Philocratem. Ca. 20 pieces are discussed and for most of them a new solution is proposed; in the other cases I argue for a solution already proposed, but not accepted by the editors. The aim of the second part is to establish whether the ps.-Aristeas used rhythmical prose or not, and whether he avoided the hiatus. The analysis shows that he wrote rhythmical prose and avoided the hiatus.

Achalasie oder Pseudoachalasie? Fallstricke der Diagnostik und Therapieentscheidung

2007

History Patient 1 (female, aged 55 years) had for some time complained of morning nausea. She reported symptoms of reflux with regurgitation of food for two-and-a-half years and also dysphagia with retrosternal bolus obstruction for the last eighteen months. Patient 2 (male, aged 84 years) complained of restrosternal dysphagia with each intake of food for one year, weight loss of 12 kg and occasional regurgitation of food. Investigations The general condition of patient 1 was only slightly impaired but that of patient 2 markedly reduced. Routine laboratory tests were unremarkable in both. Barium meal in patient 1 revealed fixed narrowing in the region of the esophageal hiatus. The inferior …

FROM UNBURDENING TO LIBERATED EMBODIED SIMULATION A HISTORY OF CONCEPTS

2020

What is imagination? How to think this «act» (action)? How to describe its phenomenology? And, above all, how to situate its very space in human behavior and mind? Can we outline a topic of imagination? I suggest that an ap- propriate blend between the tradition of philosophical anthropology, from Johann Gottfried Herder to Hans Blumenberg, and the new neuroscientific interpretation of «embodied simulation», could help us to refine our concept of imagination. I quote Herder just to refer to a noble forerunner of this genealogy, being the focus of my paper on a more controversial figure, namely Arnold Gehlen, author of an inspiring work of twentieth-century anthropology, Man. His Nature and …

Maxillary Sinus Anatomy: A Cadaveric Study With Clinical Implications

2009

This study measured maxillary sinus volume, evaluated the location of the semilunar hiatus in correlation to the nasal floor, and the incidence, location, and height of antral septa and discusses their clinical implications. Maxillary sinus volume was quantified in 65 cadavers (130 sinuses) by water application through the semilunar hiatus and measuring the used amount. The location of the semilunar hiatus was identified as distance from the nasal floor. The septa were counted, evaluated, and the size measured from the antral floor. The medium maxillary sinus volume was 12.5 mL (range, 5-22 mL). The medium location of the semilunar hiatus was 25.6 mm above the nasal floor (range, 18-35 mm).…
